Cartridge Fuses Can Keep You Safe
If your home has an older electric circuit set-up, it needs to be protected by an over-current protection device – which is a fuse. Wires and circuits have a specific maximum current rating. When this current is exceeded your over-current protection device automatically shuts the power off to prevent fires from happening. Cartridge fuses has a metal strip inside of it that connects to both metal ends of the fuse body. If a short or fault anywhere in the circuit occurs, or if the circuit is overloaded, the metal strip heats up and quickly melts, which cuts the flow of electricity to the circuit, which shuts the power.

PREVENTS ACCIDENTS FROM HAPPENING – The main purpose of a cartridge fuse is to prevent fires from happening. When a short circuit occurs happens, the cable that connects the power source to an appliance becomes overheated and ruptures its insulation. Without a fuse to protect the cable, this can lead to the direct ignition, which could result in a catastrophic accidents.

EASY TO REMOVE & INSTALL – Though it is suggested that you get a professional to do this, changing a cartridge fuse is easy. All you need to do is turn off the power to the disconnect box, check that that the power is indeed off using a voltage tester, use a plastic clamp to remove the damaged fuse and just replace it with a new one.
